With more than 135 million visitors a month, the online platform Yelp is connecting individuals and local businesses at a global scale. When it came time for a new headquarters, Studio O+A turned their mission into metaphor. The sprawling vertical campus in San Francisco looks to iconic markets for its design inspiration; each floor drawing subtle nuance and texture from a unique destination. Amsterdam’s Bloemenmarkt, London’s Borough Market, Tokyo’s Tsukiji Fish Market, and numbers others have been abstracted and reinterpreted to infuse the space with vibrant placemaking graphics.
