By The Numbers
Challenge
In this Urban Archeology project, students were asked to take a quantitative look at San Francisco culture. By selecting a specific artifact and evaluating it from a variety of angles, an in depth cross cultural analysis was produced.
Strategy
Using this assignment as a precursor to my thesis research, I analyzed the professional design community in San Francisco. I first analyzed the events held by professional design organizations over a three month period, looking at format, location, intent, cost, participation style, subject matter, etc. This material was supplemented by an overview of the design profession, as well as a statistical breakdown of designers living and working in San Francisco.
Results
The research conducted for this report was invaluable to the success of my thesis. Through in depth analysis I was able to not only produce a cohesive and factual report, but also learned best practices for data collection and information architecture.
